Cologny: the traders` hill
The most beautiful properties of the left bank of Geneva have been acquired in recent years by oil traders.
Managers of fortunes in the millions, even billions of dollars, who pay dearly for their tranquility.
The stars of American cinema reside in Beverly Hills. London's financial stars have invested in the neighbourhoods of Chelsea and Notting Hill. Oil traders can boast about monopolizing some of the finest properties on the left bank of Geneva.
Over the past fifteen years, big names like Gunvor, Trafigura, Vitol and Mercuria – the four giants of the sector – have all bought one or even several luxury villas in the canton. Properties often perched on a hillside and whose price ranges between Sw. Fr 6 and 30 million. The most "impressive" house that is currently being built in Geneva belongs to Jean-Pierre Valentini, the former Mr. Africa of Trafigura. This futuristic-style villa, whose eye-catching plan is presented on the website of the South African architectural firm SAOTA, dominates the prestigious town of Cologny and, with its large bay windows, gives the impression of hovering over the lake.
